Turkey and Stuffing and Pie - Oh MY

Well, needless to say, I really DID have a food tour while home in California. First stop was in Santa Barbara County to see my folks. They live in the official "Home of the Tri-Tip". It was bloody chilly in that town with high winds but plenty of holiday fun with my family. My mother is quite the gourmet cook and I had plenty of goodies while staying there for three days. She made a fantastic eggnog cheesecake that would blow your socks off.

Then on to my hometown of L.A. I love L.A.! I didn't realize I did until this trip. And more with the food tour....I ate pad thai from our old place we ordered from in Hollywood (where I mostly lived) and EXCELLENT and CLEAN Eggs Benedict and a "French 45" cocktail at a fairly new restaurant Downtown. It's called Bottega Louie and a dear true friend of ours Leah Faust was and still is responsible for the visuals and artwork behind the restaurant and packaging all through out. I am so proud of my very talented friend who is highly respected for her visions. She also orchestrated and collaborated with all of the packaging with Strater Records owner Erin Strater with the packaging several albums for Rachel Car. Oh my goodness - that's me! Ha!

Anyway the food was very clean with no grease and DELICIOUS. The cocktails were superb and it was another gorgeous day in my good ol' stomping grounds. May have a reason to move on back eventually. But don't worry, Vegas People....not just yet.

Well, my whole point of this is that this will be a perfect example. I stay slim but I let loose over the holiday knowing that it was going to end. Yes, eating buttery garlic bread, eggnog pie, cheese and crackers, dips and chips, pad thai, pineapple fried rice, tacos (from our favorite taco stand in Silverlake while in L.A.), wine, Bellini's, French 75s, pasta with shrimp and tomato garlic sauce, olives, cheese, oysters, champagne and blah blah blah.....was GREAT, but I knew it had to end. I can feel the bloat, the body not processing what I would prefer to put in it (I wish I could have had some sashimi). But Monday the 30th is D day, so here I am. I am looking forward to it and getting rid of the bloat and water weight and feeling like my slender, sexy foxy self. I love food, but with several days in a row of decadence? Oh, brother.

We all have to prepare for Christmas in just a few weeks, so let's all be good girls until then? I will if you will. And I will give a tip to keep us on track.....Oysters, fruit, veggies, olive oil, yogurt, eggs and chicken/fish. I will give recipes in the next few days to keep you on focus. Deal? :)

Download the plan. You'll understand.

Holidays are a-comin'....

Oh, boy. Yes, it's true, the holiday season provokes us to eat eat eat. Believe me, I love to eat around the holidays. And yes I know, depending on where you live, you don't feel like going outside to exercise if that's what you do. Holidays can make keeping slim and slender a bit more challenging. So I have indulging in Halloween candies in the last evening and realized, Oh My God! We are skidding on an oil patch toward Thanksgiving and Christmas! Holy Moly! So I found this recipe online that I am going to try....on my off-day, of course.

Fall Salad with Asian Pears, Walnuts and Sherry Vinaigrette

This recipe serves: 6

Ingredients
For the vinaigrette:
1 tablespoon finely chopped shallots 3 tablespoons sherry vinegar 3 tablespoons olive oil 1 tablespoon honey salt to taste freshly ground black pepper
For the salad:
12 cups red or green leaf lettuce, washed and torn into bite-size pieces 3 Asian pears, cored and sliced (peeling is optional) 2 cups red grapes 3 tablespoons chopped walnuts 3 tablespoons crumbled blue cheese 6 slices thick, crusty bread
Cooking Instructions

For the vinaigrette:

1. Place all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk to combine. Adjust the salt and pepper to taste.

(This can be made in advance and stored in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.)

For the salad:

1. Toss the lettuce, pears and grapes with the vinaigrette in a large bowl.

2. Divide the salad among 6 serving plates and sprinkle with the walnuts and blue cheese. Serve with bread on the side.

Serving Size: 2 cups of salad with 1 tablespoon of vinaigrette

I thought that this would be fun on your on-day too, as long as you eat a much smaller portion. Just cut out the bread, young lady. Save that for that bowl of scrumptious pasta with Vodka ala Penne sauce and all of that fresh grated Parmesan cheese. THE $100 DIET's Secret Quick Tips to Burn Fat FAST! (Shhhh!)

There are a few elements that I feel many don't realize. I have had a lot of letters from people asking why they are not burning as much fat as quickly as they would like. Well, boys and girls, there are a few small changes you can make to your lifestyle that would burn that stubborn fat a whole lot faster.

1. First, you should work out first thing in the morning. After brushing your teeth and such you should get right to it. Why, you ask? There are a couple of reasons. One of them is that working out in the morning before you eat any meals means that instead of the body burning the carbs from the meals you have eaten, it looks to burn something else. It burns fat fast. Overnight, to keep other bodily functions going such as digestion, blood flow, breathing and so forth. In the morning, if you work out before you actually consume any type of food, your body will not burn off the calories and carbohydrates as it would would not have any to burn. It will turn to burn something else, and that is burn the body fat instead.

2. You should work out for about 45 minutes to an hour. Don't panic, this is not straight working out for the entire time, this includes warm up and cool down! You should slowly increase your heart rate and decrease it methodically. Don't do start and stop methods, as this could be dangerous.

3. Choose a medium yet steady intensity through your work outs. Fat burns faster when you have sufficient oxygen to the body while working out. Some intense workouts take away the oxygen needed to burn that fat fast. High powered Yoga, a steady pace on the elyptical and even DVDs toting "Blast Away the Fat" are good methods to use, as opposed to constant sprinting or high impact workouts. I have found this out through experience, believe you me!

4. EAT BREAKFAST. Don't skip it. Skipping meals and not providing the body with the sufficient fuel it needs will make the body revert to starvation mode, which actually aids in STORING fat. And we don't want that, do we? This is very important if you want to burn fat fast.

5. Eat less carbs.  You will see quite clearly how you can balance this out in life. I am not saying cut them out completely and never have a good piece of fresh French bread ever again. But if your body has less carbs to burn, then again, it will look for something else to burn. Yes! Like the body fat you want to burn off fast and get rid of. The book has great meal plans and recipes for those "Good Girl" days and also for those "Bad Girl" days. You have to read it. You will learn how to lose weight fast and you will love to see how to fast you will see results.

Well, I hope that helps. I am looking forward to hearing from you and please, feel free to drop me a line anytime. You can have fun and stay looking foxy!  I do!

Watch out, here it comes....

Well, it's here kids...the book called "Recipebook for Bad Girls" will be available on iTunes and Smartphones shortly and is already available at Amazon's Kindle.  Download it today!

This is a small collection of my naughty but oh-so-good recipes from scratch that will make your whole weekend.  I am so excited.  If you like food, you'll LOVE these recipes!

By the way, there is a perk to being a good girl most of the week, exercising and keeping active.  I recently moved to a cool new house (I LOVE this house, the owner really did a great job restoring and preserving the mid-century features in not only the home itself, but the yard and exterior features!) and I not only exercised normally but I was hauling boxes and lifting and moving all day for three days!  And you bet your bottom dollar I was hungry.

Well, these days was the perfect time to have my treats.  I earned it!  My other half took me out to a nice sushi dinner and I was famished.  But I ate moderately still and knew when to stop.  As my activity level was so high, I digested my food immediately and moved on to dessert...red bean japanese ice cream.  Delicious!

Anyhow, Fall is here and here we are.  So let's get in the Fall mood and eat how we want to eat and still look foxy.  Low fat recipes are not that bad!  They are actually tasty with the right spices!  Buy the book.  GET ACTIVE!  Don't sit around on computers or in cars for hours on end.  Get moving!  Literally.

Feeling Blue is GOOD (In certain circumstances)

Here are just a few tricks and tips that I thought I would share that keep my girlish figure nice and trim.  I experimented with a ton of things from celebrity diets and found that these things actually work!  Mind over matter is a great practice to implement, as the mind is half the battle to accomplishing anything.  If you mind says you can, than the lovely body follows.

1.  Tapas style meals.  I like to eat a lot of different things in small amounts, preferably on cute little dishes.  I like to try a variety/sampling of foods in one meal, and even when all of that adds up, it's still far less calories than a whopping one dish monster on a huge plate.  Plus it's more fun and the strange thing is, it makes me feel like I'm having a little tea party like you did when we were all little.  Ha!

2.  Blue dress, blue plate, blue blue blue all around.  Eat off a BLUE salad-sized plate, wear more blue dresses and articles of clothing in your wardrobe, etc.  Scientific research shows that blue is the least appetizing color, and eating with that color plate will decrease your appetite and help you lose weight fast and easily.  Notice how all fast food restaurants are colored in oranges, reds and yellows?  Those colors are the ones that actually get people in the mood to eat.  But not blue!

3.  Stay BUSY.  For me when I am busy and running around like a chicken with my head cut off, I eat far less and actually forget sometimes (which isn't great, so that's not a good thing).  But it's true...if you are out and about and going and doing and getting things done or even just keeping busy with extra ciricular activities, you just don't think about it.

Guess what?  I am now an "expert author"  on EzineArticles.com!  I will be featured on their home page in two days! It's an honor and I am so excited!!!

If you want to lose the maximum amount of weight in a short amount of time, you have to download the book.  I have an emergency starter fast weight loss plan that kicks those pounds off your bod.

What do you have to lose?  Except those pounds of course.

I will be back with more exciting news tomorrow....

Calorie Burn While Washing the Car? Hmmmmmm.....

I thought this vintage car wax ad was cool, so I thought I would share it with y'all.  But here's another side note...how many calories do you burn while washing your car?

You should be surprised how many calories you burn while doing normal activities.  For instance, if I washed, dried and waxed my car for 30 minutes, I would have burnet 118 calories!  I know, it's very exciting.  Well, there are a multitude of activities that we don't count as "exercise" but we burn cals just the same.

For instance, do you know that housecleaning burns calories?  Walking to the store instead of driving?  Obviously.  But did you know that cooking even burns calories?   Yes, if you cook for an hour, you can burn between 100 - 139 calories!  And yes, even if you are just standing, you can burn calories.  Crazy, eh?

I found this interesting site that calculates how many calories you burn doing a variety of standard activities if you just enter your weight and how long you were doing that activity.  I would check it out...and also you can figure out how many calories you are burning per day in conjunction with how many calories you are ingesting.  I find it kind of fun, but then, I am a fanatic so you be the judge.

Even if I were to spend the time calculating everything I did in one day, I would still need to exercise for my own alone time and peace of mind.  I love knowing that I had exercised and that it's out of the way.  And another tip - I found if you exercise in the morning before you eat anything at all, your body burns fat instead of the carbs from the food you just ate!  It's brilliant that our bodies are like computers.  It searches for carbs to burn, but since you haven't eaten since the night before and there isn't anything to burn, it defaults and searches for something else to burn, which are fat cells.  It's a fabulous thing.

Anyhow, if you buy the book in the next couple of weeks, I will email you the bonus cookbook for free.  Just email me and ask!

http://feeds.feedburner.com/thepinupgirldiet

I was written up TWICE on Yahoo Answers as being the best answer for diet and exercise tips...it worked for them and it can work for you, if you're interested, boys and girls.  I know what I am talking about.  I will keep my girlish figure until the end of time and still have a LOT of fun.

Get to know "Rover" a bit better while getting your "Bettie" Bod

You know who you are.  You are so busy that you don't spend much time with your ol' four legged pal who wishes you could spend more time with him (or her).   So why not kill two birds with one stone and take him out with you while you exercise in the mornings or evenings or whenever you get your lazy ass up? Just kidding, of course.  But you catch my drift, don't you?  Burn belly fat fast while you take your furry friend out and make both of you happy.  It's brilliant!

You can take him to your neighborhood park or just around town.  I would take a dog walking wherever I wanted to just walk to and hang out, even though I had never been there before.  I still do take long walks or bike rides investigating old Downtown Vegas.  There are so many facets of Vegas that it keeps unfolding and unfolding showing more to discover.  It's quite fascinating.  So I would take along "Rover" for the ride.  Why not?  Plus, it's a great conversation starter with the opposite sex if you gals are single and looking.  There!  See, THREE purposes when you take your pet out with you...exercise, companionship and a date-magnet.  Now who could ask for more than that.

Now here is a tasty easy low fat recipe for those hot summer days that I found online and am going to try - maybe tonight!  So I thought I would share and then we can all give our thoughts on this.

Cold Cucumber Soup

Ingredients:

1 (32-ounce) carton non-fat plain yogurt 1/3 cup chopped fresh dill, or to taste 1 clove garlic, crushed 2 medium cucumbers, peeled, seeded and chopped (reserve 1/2 cup) Salt to taste

Directions:

In a blender, process all ingredients (except 12 cup chopped cucumber) until smooth. Stir in cucumber. Chill. Garnish with a sprig of dill.

Write me and tell me what you cool cats think of that one!  Cheers and I have plenty of low fat recipes in the book - and there's plenty more where that came from.
